Today is National Honor Our LGBT Elders Day, a time to recognize and celebrate the contributions and struggles of older LGBTQ+ individuals who paved the way for equality and social acceptance.
Remembering our past is always a good thing, especially when we honor those who paved the way. Get involved, if you aren't already.
There are a whole bunch of ways to honor LGBTQ+ elders. Use social media to show support, possibly changing your cover of profile picture to honor LGBTQ elders. Spend some time with these longtime activists and listen to their stories to preserve their history and wisdom. Consider volunteering with organizations that provide support, advocacy, or companionship for older LGBTQ+ adults. Maybe make a contribution to the Rainbow Honor Walk.
As we honor our LGBTQ+ elders, let us continue the work they have begun and build on it for future generations.
